It takes a village to raise a child --- which is the spirit of a small village in Japan, Omori in Shimane Prefecture, where the UNESCO Leadership Symposium on Education for Sustainable Development took place in in March 2019. One of the participants, H.E. Jay Bir Rai, Minister of Education, Bhutan, said “in order for a community to be sustainable, we need strong youth and for that we need quality education.” A young Japanese American, Shun Ito, who is a new resident of Omori, added, “young people can contribute to the village by continuing to bring happiness into daily practice as taught in the tradition and its lifestyles.”
